Tolleson Juneteenth

The City of Tolleson, in collaboration with our community partners, is excited to invite everyone to the Juneteenth Celebration at the Civic Center, on June 19th, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This important event commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors freedom and equality for all.

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the freedom of enslaved people, over two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. This day stands as a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the ongoing journey toward equality.

The celebration at the Tolleson Civic Center will feature a variety of activities, including:

  • Inspiring Speakers: Hear from community leaders and historians about the significance of Juneteenth, the 12 freedoms that were denied, and the progress toward racial equality.
  • Live Music Performances: Enjoy music that reflects the rich cultural heritage and diversity in Tolleson.
  • Art Displays and Crafts: Experience art to connect with the past and look to a bright future.
  • Family-Friendly Activities: Engage in activities designed for all ages, fostering community spirit and unity.
  • Local Food Vendors: Try something you love or something new with different types of food.
